What areas can be treated with Botox? For cosmetic applications, Botox can be used to address lines and wrinkles on the forehead and eye area (crow’s feet), as well as lip lines. It may also be injected to soften dimpling of the chin or into the muscles of the jaw to create a more slim appearance. In some cases, Botox may also be used by dermatologists to treat medical conditions such as hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating.
-
How does Botox work?Botox is a neurotoxin (a form of botulinum toxin type A) that is injected into targeted treatment areas using an ultra-fine needle. Botox® works by blocking nerve signals to prevent the muscles in certain areas of the face from contracting, allowing the skin to remain smooth and unwrinkled.
-
Does Botox hurt?Botox treatments are quick and not considered painful. Most patients say they experience minimal discomfort during the injection process, but that it does not continue after the completion of the procedure. Because Botox treatment requires no anesthesia or recovery time, some patients even schedule appointments for Botox injections during their lunch hour and are able to return to work right after their appointment.
-
When will I see results? Each patient is different, but most will typically begin to notice results gradually between 3-7 days after receiving injections. For some, it may take up to 2 weeks to realize the final effects.
-
How long will my Botox last? The outcome will vary from person to person, but typically you can expect the results of Botox to last from three to six months. The location of the injection and the amount used are the biggest factors that may affect how long it lasts. Other factors include your age, the elasticity of your skin, and wrinkle depth. Over time when facial muscles aren’t used, they eventually get shorter and smaller so regular use of Botox may extend the results for longer periods of time.
-
What age should I start getting Botox? Many patients wonder if they are too young or too old to try Botox. Some begin treatment as a preventative measure at the first site of lines and wrinkles. Others wait until later in life when these expression lines become more prominent. To determine if you may benefit from Botox treatment, it’s best to first schedule a consultation with a licensed professional.
-
Is Botox safe?Botox is an FDA approved as a safe treatment for reversing lines and wrinkles. However, patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain neurological diseases should not receive Botox treatments.
-
Are there any adverse side effects? As with any procedure, whether medical or cosmetic, there is always a risk of side effects. Some patients may experience bruising, swelling, redness or tenderness around the injection site. These side effects resolve on their own within a few days or up to a week following Botox treatment.
-
Is there anything I need to do to prepare for my Botox treatment?Your provider may advise you to not consume alcohol or cease taking certain medications or supplements in the week prior to your treatment such as aspirin, ibuprofen, Gingko Biloba, or Ginseng, which are known to thin the blood. This will help minimize the potential side effects listed above.
-
How long does dermal filler last? The durability of the dermal filler will vary from person to person, product to product, and from area to area. Different people are going to metabolize products at a different rate. There are several different brands of products on the market that are clinically proven and designed to last longer than others (which may affect the price of the product). Also, some areas of the face are used more than others. For example, where you can inject one product in the lips and get 7-8 months longevity, you could inject the same product in the tear trough and get 14-18 months longevity. At Aesthetic Med Studio, we will always explain the difference between products and what results you can expect to see before proceeding with your treatment. We have been doing this for over a decade and a half, so when it comes to experience with products, we will always be able to tell you a reasonable amount of time that a product will last before you use it
-
Does getting dermal filler hurt?Pain is subjective from person to person. However, overall, most people do not think that the pain exceeds a 4 on a scale of 1-10 (10 being labor and delivery). For more sensitive areas such as the lips, we will often apply a topical numbing cream prior to injecting the dermal filler. If you apply that before the dermal filler treatment, then you should really not feel too much of anything.
-
Are there different types of dermal fillers? There are many different family brands of dermal filler, some of the most popular that we sell are: Belotero Bellafil Juvederm (Juvederm Ultra XC, Juvederm Ultra XC+, Voluma, Volbella, Volure) Restylane (RestylaneL, Restylane Lyft, Refyne, Defyne, Contour, Kysse) Revance – Resilient Hyaluronic Acid or RHA (1, 2, 3, 4) Radiesse Sculptra Revanesse: Versa Each one of these products has a different consistency, level of volume it provides, and clinical standard on how long it lasts. Along with that, not all of these products can be injected with the same technique or injected into the same area. This is one of the reasons why it’s important to go to someone with a high experience level.
-
Am I going to bruise from dermal filler?Bruising can be a normal aspect to receiving injectables. After all, you did just have a needle in your face. That being said, many of our patients do not bruise because of the measures we take beforehand. At Sparrow House Medical Aesthetics, we want to give you the best experience possible.
-
What if I don’t like my dermal filler? At Sparrow House Medical Aesthetics, our Specialists are highly trained with their tools and very talented with artistic views of the face/body. One of the worst things about doing anything with our team… is that you’re going to love it! However, if you truly don’t like your results, we can simply inject a solution into the area to dissolve the product – then, everything goes exactly back how it was before your injections.
-
Am I going to look crazy with dermal filler? The “crazy look” you may have spotted is rarely ever the dermal filler’s fault. Think of this in the same way you think of getting your hair cut or dyed. Typically, the “crazy look” is from the one who performed the service, not the product itself. Anytime you get injectables, your results are going to be 90% injector and 10% product. The quality of the product definitely matters, but most importantly, it comes down to the artist who is doing the injecting.
-
My friends/family tell me that I don’t need dermal filler.Truthfully, everything in the aesthetic world is a “want.” To compare it once again to getting your hair done, nobody ever “needs” their hair dyed. However, often aesthetic improvements are important because they help you feel good about yourself. Dermal fillers are viewed as a part of “upkeep” – giving a rejuvenated look to one’s appearance.
-
I have always been a little self-conscious about the size of my lips and would like them a little bigger, but I don’t want duck lips or an “unnatural” look.We pride ourselves in giving a beautifully natural look. All ages, shapes and sizes need to be treated uniquely because your lips are unique to you. Our goal is to take your ideas and craft a beautiful result. Our team is skilled and experienced in achieving your dream lips: whether that is a slight rejuvenation, a sexy plump, a tailored/enhanced shape, creating more symmetry, or even matching your lips to a celebrity that you follow on social media.
-
My friend went to get filler somewhere other than your place and I don’t like the way it looks; does that mean I’m going to look bad if I come to you? Most injectors today are certified in a course over a day or two. You can teach the science of injecting dermal fillers, but you can’t teach the art aspect of aesthetics. All injectors see a face differently, which means everyone’s ability to balance and tailor results are different. There are many great injectors that you can go to. We often recommend looking at before and after photos, asking questions, and doing your own research to figure out if an injector will be a good fit for you.
-
If I get dermal fillers now and don’t want to do them again, is it going to look worse than before when the product goes away? When the dermal filler product metabolizes, your results will go right back to exactly what they were before you received the injection. However, after you have seen how good it looks with the dermal fillers done correctly, it is often very easy to look at yourself in the mirror after they are gone and forget what you looked like before you had them. Before and after pictures are important because it gives you a wonderful base of where you started and where you currently are.
-
I don’t really feel comfortable thinking about a foreign product going into my body. Are dermal fillers my only option for anti-aging?Even though the dermal fillers are made with natural ingredients, it’s okay to not want them. Dermal fillers are not for everyone. Some people are uncomfortable with the thought of a “foreign substance” going into their body. If that is how you feel, we have numerous other options that don’t include injections which are often better for overall anti-aging. We are always a call or a message away to help you.
-
What does a unit of filler cost?Dermal fillers are sold per syringe. All medical spas purchase them this way, so it is the most accurate and honest way to sell them back to you. Cost per syringe can vary from place to place depending on the brand of product and the expertise of the injector. It’s important to remember that you’re not only paying for the product, but also for the talent of the injector. Just because an injector is a nurse or a doctor does not mean that they are skilled in the art of injecting dermal fillers/neurotoxins. We understand that cost is a big factor when choosing which facility to go to – which is why we pride ourselves in fair pricing!
-
Why are there so many different prices for dermal filler?Prices with dermal fillers vary from $350-$950 per syringe for the same reason that food varies in price at a restaurant. It costs the restaurant different prices to purchase different ingredients. The same is true of dermal fillers. Companies such as Allergan (Juvederm) often charge more for their products, which is why you’ll often see Juvederm as one of the most expensive dermal fillers on the market.
